Sometimes when law enforcement pulls over a driver it is for a different reason than they end up being penalized for. When that occurs drivers may end up facing a stream of charges. Being charged with traffic offenses such as DUI is frightening. Facing additional charges adds to that fear. Recently, a Surfside Beach man was arrested for DUI, operating a vehicle intoxicated while a 7-year-old child was sitting in the back seat. In reality, the driver was not driving erratically, and the only reason police pulled the man over was on suspicion of an incident completely unrelated to his driving.
Police sought the man, age 27, after receiving a call about a possible case of domestic violence. When law enforcement arrived on the scene of the alleged altercation, they noticed a black SUV leaving, which they believed belonged to the man whom the complaint was about.
Police pursued the man and eventually pulled him over. When they did, they could smell alcohol coming from the car while the man was at the wheel and noted a young child was sitting in the back seat. The driver confirmed that he was involved in a dispute at the residence with a woman. The woman claimed that he hit her in the face and scratched her back in attempts to get a prescription pain medication patch. The woman also said the man briefly locked her and another child in the bathroom so she couldn't call the authorities.
The woman and her son eventually escaped and the man took off, leaving an additional 17-month-old child at home alone. Once police pulled the man over, they arrested him.
The man refused to submit to an alcohol breath test and it is unclear on how authorities did eventually test for alcohol in his system. Nevertheless, he was charged with DUI in addition to driving under suspension, child endangerment, criminal domestic violence and unlawful neglect of a child.

A Power of Attorney is a written document that you can use to give another person the authority to act in your place. The person you name to act in your place is referred to as your agent and may only do what you have specifically authorized them to do in your document. They must also act in good faith and in your best interest. They cannot give their authority to somebody else to complete the task for them.
